LOHAS Park

Tseung Kwan O, Hong Kong, China

LOHAS Park is one of the largest residential developments ever designed in Hong Kong, built on 34.8 hectares of reclaimed land and sprawling over 330,000 sq. m. LOHAS Park is a seaside community housing over 20,000 families in 50 residential towers, served by a 45,000 sq. m. shopping centre, a large public transport interchange, schools and other community facilities – kindergartens, a day nursery, elderly centres and children and youth services centres.

The master plan of the development, an acronym of “Lifestyle of Health and Sustainability”, emphasises quality of life and environmental friendliness. This is visible throughout the design: vehicular and pedestrian traffic is segregated – pedestrians can access various facilities without any crossing roads as all spaces are linked by covered walkways. The development also has large amounts of open space, allowing for natural air flow and plentiful sunlight. Adding to its human centricity, 40% of the site area consists of common areas with abundant greenery.

In the mid-2010s, RLP was appointed by the MTR Corporation Ltd. to be the MLP architect for the entire site, and was designated the Lead Architect for five out of the project’s 13 phases – specifically Phase 4, 5, 9, 11 and 12. Two of these phases are complete, the remaining three are scheduled to be finished later in 2022 and 2024.
